every day in every way the internet undermines what remains of my faith in humanity.

When I once tried to engage in a conversation over whether in some cases the condition associated with being fat actually caused the person being fat, I was accused of using “tobacco lobby science”. Which just… there are so many things wrong with that I can’t even begin to count them. And the worst thing was this was in a forum where it was kind of off-topic. And on the topic the forum actually related to, that level of skepticism applied in exactly that way would have been applauded, I mean down to the detail. But apparently when talking about fat it was akin to the tobacco industry. The same person came out with the really weird statement “health isn’t just the absence of disease, you know” when fat people talked about how healthy they were. (Uh… that’s exactly what health is.)
