YES THANK YOU THIS. I’ve been in the process of writing about something similar to this myself and I’m glad to see for now I can just point to a link.
One of the attributes of a kind of advocacy I can’t stand, is demanding no diversity of opinion. Not only does it fuck things up for anyone who wants to be involved but doesn’t want to 100% agree, it also guarantees its own failure. And the entire idea that everyone should have identical opinions on so many things is scary to me. Because when I think of what people who think like that must have for an ideal world, it’s just… both impossible to pull off, and dangerous to try. And yet they continue to try, with most people agreeing on a lengthy list of “If you disagree with this one thing you’re not only not One Of Us, you’re horrible too!”
