As much issue I had with the history of medicine course that I was a TA for last year, at least the material taught in that course provides a corrective to the ever-popular “modern hygienic and antiseptic procedures are bad” narrative.  Because if people had any idea about what conditions in earlier eras were like, I doubt they’d continue to hold this ridiculous opinion.

It’s like some people want to return to the days where you could wake up healthy and be dead of cholera by the evening.
