Trying to find the right words: Does anyone else find things written by adults using a child's 'voice' creepy & triggering as fuck?

They really, REALLY bother me. Not like upset bother, but ohgodohgodohgodnononononodon’tdon’tdon’tNOOOOyouaren’tinthathead triggerbother?

I suspect it’s a function of people shoving words & feelings & such into my mouth & otherwise attributing to me…

They make me want to throw things.

As in, BOTH things parents write “phonetically” that the child actually said. (But they never write their own speech phonetically.) AND when parents write things the child didn’t say, as if the child actually said it. (Like saying shit from the child’s point of view. Like when my mother saw me snuggling a kitten and said “You’re my favorite” in a childlike voice as if it was what I was thinking. She did this a lot and it contributed to my communication problems.) I get just as pissed off and freaked out when people write from the point of view of their cats.

Yes. There are ways to say what your best guess is about what someone is doing or thinking without pretending you speak for them or are them.

Exactly. And I grew up with that happening to me constantly. To the point they had this fantasy child overlaid on top of me and narrated everything going on in its head. Not because it was their best guess. But because that’s who they wanted me to be. And didn’t want me to be me. It was beyond terrible.
