I always feel a bit out of place when people talk about autism and lying because I can lie.

I can lie really well.

I used to lie about anything and everything.

It was a skill developed out of necessity and self preservation.

So I always feel weird people say “Autistic people don’t lie, or are…

Autistic people can lie. The only autistic people who believe none of us lie, either haven’t met a large enough number of autistic people, or have assumed that they were all telling the truth all the time because they’re autistic.

Moreover, I (I’m autistic) actually believe that there are times when it’s perfectly all right to lie, and even times when it’s absolutely wrong to tell the truth. So do plenty of other autistic people I know. The idea that none of us lie, or even few of us, is both inaccurate and kind of dangerous.
