I hate when people think autistic people can’t be nice or kind or decent or caring or friendly or social — and when people equate all those things.

Me too.

Sadly I never met someone who understood that outside of the internet and even here it’s rare.

It’s one of the main reasons people say I can’t be autistic, I’m not rude/unkind enough. :/

Yeah in the hospital one nurse asked me why I needed to type to communicate if I was capable of being social. As if the two are even remotely connected. In fact many people I know who type are more social – or at least want to be more social – than many who speak. Of course this nurse wasn’t capable of picking up that my mostly-verbal (at great cost) friend socializing with me was also autistic. Or that we were socializing in fairly autistic ways. But seriously social skills != verbal skills.
