Figured out why I don’t much care for “allistic”

Because when I say NT, I don’t mean “not-autistic”. I mean more like “not autistic-or-cousin” in the ANI sense.

what do you call OCD?

They are allistic. But they are not NT.

I generally use nonautistic instead of allistic.

My beef with allistic is we’ve never needed a word like that, and there are so many neologisms out there already it’s hard for my brain to track them all. So if I tolerate them it’s because there’s no other word for the thing. In this case there is. NONAUTISTIC. Means exactly what allistic means only doesn’t require much strain on the brain of the person who has to understand the word. Hard to misunderstand nonautistic. (Or even non-spectrum if some people think Aspergers or PDDNOS counts as nonautistic.)

Despite that being my point of view, and my wish is that others would agree, many don’t. And I don’t want to seem like I’m telling everyone they have to do this. Because I get annoyed when people insist the way they use words is perfect. They aren’t perfect and neither am I. So my real intent is to explain this point of view to anyone interested. So if I heard someone say “You HAVE TO say nonautistic because youneedacat said so!” I’d want to troutslap them. People have done that to my words before. So all I’m saying is this options available and I prefer it. I don’t want to start another flamewars of Who Prefers Which Words.
