Fellow POTSies and gastroparesis sufferers, what do you do for nausea…24 mg of zofran later and I’m not feeling any better :[?

Phenergan, Zofran, Reglan, Ativan, Benadryl, and Marinol, are the ones I remember. The schedule is complicated with various ones at various times, never alone:

6 am, 9 am, 12 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm, 12 am.

I can also take one PRN Zofran, one PRN Ativan, and several PRNs of Benadryl.

The Benadryl is there to fight nausea and allergies both, but it’s also there to fight extrapyramidal reactions from Phenergan which I sometimes got in the past.

I can only take half the full dose of Reglan due to severe akathisia and dystonia. This makes me mad. There’s a similar drug in other countries which is just like Reglan but doesn’t cross the blood brain barrier and cause these symptoms. But if you’re American it’s hard to get and not FDA approved for completely stupid reasons that basically say they don’t see gastroparesis treatment as a priority.

Except for PRNs I never take only one nausea med at a time. I always take at least two, maybe three or four. I don’t know the exact doses or what happens at what times. Just that it’s every three hours except two gaps between 12 and 6 (am and pm) each day.

Notes:
  1. dowhatmakesyouhappy-no-regrets answered: Zofran and Benadryl and weed are all part of my GP cocktail right now. Wish I could take Reglan/Phenergan but I’m at risk for seizures
  2. soulhun-ting answered: metachlopramide and try like 8 or 12mg of zofran, too much can actually have the opposite effect and make you feel worse :(
  3. teacupsandphotographs said: Ginger is great as well as hot teas. For Rx I use Phen.
  4. shoushoude answered: ginger often helps me (real ginger ale, ginger chews/candy, etc). mint tea & saltine crackers can help as well if my nausea isn’t super bad
