and also…

josiahd:

…what if I don’t have a high IQ anymore?

Scared of the fallout of that.

My IQ at five years old was measured as 135+ or around 160 depending on the test. My IQ at fifteen years old was measured as 120. My IQ at 22 years old was measured as 85. I’m 32 now and haven’t been measured anytime recently but I’d expect it to be lower now for a whole lot of reasons including a recent bout of severe delirium (and delirium usually means brain damage).

So I would’ve been considered gifted for about ten years out of 32, although people who didn’t know of the two IQ changes since then sometimes insist that my IQ should somehow reflect the advantages of being a hyperlexic five-year-old? o_O

As you know I consider IQ meaningless. But of course not everyone does.

I’ve found that the sort of people who consider it meaningful in terms of qualifying you as gifted, tend to not believe in it going down no matter what. Or maybe that’s only the assholes who like to think you’re faking if it goes down. Hard to tell.

Anyway I’ve had very few problems from it going down other than accusations of making that up. And I’ve never had those accusations from any serious professional in my life. Especially since the last test was carried out by a very strict tester employed by people who would use any excuse to call someone a fraud if they could, and he didn’t object.

It’s mostly served as a really good way to uncover people’s biases about IQ.
