One weird thing about autism over the generations is that it has always consisted partly of both those people who truly fit the stereotypes of the day, and those the professionals convince themselves fit those stereotypes, but don’t. And then others who are neither. That’s one reason for the weirdness of the whole idea. Especially with the stereotypes changing year to year. It’s amazing anyone has kept the idea of autism with any consistency at all.
