josiahd: iheartthemuppets: Let me know when the nice weather stops. Image is Oscar the Grouch in his trash can, with the lid partly opened. Like, look at the body language in this picture. Oscar is looking around deciding if he wants to come out. He isn’t going to come out unless he decides he wants to. And, no one is going to open the lid without his permission, or try to make him come out. This is a grouch who feels safe in his can, and has a reasonable expectation that his can is a safe place. I like that. And I don’t see it much, in any sort of fiction and especially not kids’ fiction. Kids’ fiction is mostly things that are supposed to seem safe, but don’t.
