I also have a strong interest in something that doesn’t have a word. Or at least, I don’t like most of the words people usually use for it. Ethics, maybe. But not as a field of academic study….

YES YES YES THAT.

In reply to twocentsormore, who said: I just kind of spontaneously got the thought of, “If you can name what you think I’m doing with some term that someone has already coined, then you’re not talking about my ethics any more.”

Exactly.

I think I disagree with you that this is inherently outside of words, and I think I disagree with you that it is impossible to name.

But I agree with you that nothing anyone has named comes *anywhere* close to being the thing we’re talking about.

I know that at the core it’s outside words. At least what I’m doing is. And that’s not a function of how my brain works. It’s a function of where ethics (or whatever you want to call it) come from at the core: a place that words can’t touch at all.

People can try to use words to point to that stuff, and be somewhat successful, but there’s a point that words can’t penetrate. Which isn’t a brain thing, it’s a what reality looks like thing. But everyone tries to give words to that stuff, whether it’s actually feasible or not.

And by words I don’t just mean words, but also any form of symbolic thought.
