Yay. So the other day someone was flushing my j-tube with coke, and they left it in for an hour instead of just fifteen minutes. So things got sticky. And then food stuck to the edges. And I was worried about clogs. And today things were acting slightly clogged.

So for days I hadn’t been able to get the crust of food off no matter how many times I flushed with hot water. But today I stumbled on two things.

One, there was some food right at the top of the tube. I dug it out with a paper clip.

Two, pumping hot water back and forth, back and forth, with a small syringe, helped a lot. First the first little piece of crusted on food came off. Then a bunch of food I didn’t even know was in there, came out of the opaque part of the tube. And by the time I had flushed that through, all the rest of the crust of food was gone.

So pumping back and forth and back and forth with hot water in a small syringe seems like the way to go. For food clogs, hot water and coke work about as well as each other. Med clogs may be a different matter, which is why I try to use coke to dissolve any meds that may crust up day to day deeper in the tube where I can’t see it.

But you can see in the picture that the j-tube is finally clear. Instead of having obvious food crusted in the clear part. The g tube is… Well it’s yellowish clear, but that’s because it’s always draining stomach acid so that’s fine.

Anyway I’m relieved I got it cleaned out. I’d be ashamed to go back so soon to the clinic to get the whole tube replaced.
