That hyperbole and a half…

…makes it pretty clear to me that the things I’ve experienced have never been depression. 

And gives me some concepts to explain why.

I think there’s different degrees of depression, and kinds of depression. What you experienced still may not have been depression. But what depression looks like varies from person to person.

Even my own depression has varied a lot. I’ve experienced that horrible state of nothingness and more nothingness. But I’ve also experienced a very agitated sort of depression. And one where I felt like I was a sieve and the entire world went through me. And a type where I cried every day all day whenever anyone couldn’t see me. And a bunch of other things. And I’ve always lumped them all together as depression. Not just the thing where the big black hole comes and eats all your feelings until there’s nothing left but lots and lots of nothing and more nothing. That’s a very specific type and degree of depression.
