(so not as well as most animals :p)  But momma bird is not going to reject her chick just because it smells a bit weird. You can’t always get to the nest, though, so if you can’t… Mom and Dad bird will usualy keep feeding a chick on the ground (as long as it is safe for them). So the chick will be cared for, just not have the warmth and safety of the nest.  So if you can make a warm area on the ground, that’s nice. And Happy mother’s day btw.
