EDIT: oh god there’s a “Stories of Hope” section and it’s every bit as awful as it sounds

Easter Seals is strange.

I got services from them for awhile. They were half decent at it. As in, they sent people into my home to help me do stuff. Funded through the Regional Center. But they were also really weird and agency like and strange things happened. I think it was Easter Seals where my case manager quit the day before an audit and destroyed my file so the auditors wouldn’t see it. What was in it, I can’t even begin to guess, the guy lied to me about so much. And my next case manager was okay. It really depended on the people. They were better than the previous agency. Worse than the one after them. Basically behaved like your standard DD agency.

But I remember one week they didn’t send any subs and I wasn’t getting food or anything so I got up all the skills I had, somehow made it to their office, turned up my communication device as loud as I could, and said “YOU HAVEN’T SENT ANYONE TO MY HOUSE, I AM STARVING, I WON’T LEAVE UNTIL SOMEONE HELPS ME EAT.” And the director of the agency heard and drove me home, came out to my house, fixed me dinner, and cleaned my apartment.

But basically they’re an agency and agencies mostly suck even when they do things sort of right.
