What the hell is that? I mean, I know whatever it is, it wants you dead, but really. What is it?

A currawong. It’s not a raven (though it looks a bit like one), but a native passerine bird, and it will eat pretty much anything. It was probably trying to work out if the camera was edible. The little hook on the end of the beak is the giveaway. 

(Also, the deep space tracking centre is well worth a visit if you’re ever in Canberra. It’s one of the city’s best-kept secrets.)
