Agreed with that notion. Especially because it is only safe for certain kinds of people. Safe spaces are rarely safe for me. They’re rarely safe for people who disagree with the ideologies that are dominant wherever the safe space is.

I’ve seen people who seemed so horribly beaten down and demoralized already, come into the actuallyautistic tag and get treated badly because they didn’t instantly agree on things like whether they wanted a cure. I talked to one person in that position and he was way too grateful that I stood up for him when I was just trying to be sort of baseline decent to him, and didn’t deserve such a high level of gratitude. It upset me a lot to see that. He wasn’t the only person I saw that happen to either, just the only person I talked to about it.

I agree totally though that places for only autistic people are useful. It’s just… Idk my brain won’t let me explain. I am glad the tag exists, I am glad it is mostly autistic people who end up posting on it, but sometimes I am upset by things I see happen there, usually ideological things. I especially get upset when people question the autism of people who disagree with them, or even say that no real autistic people disagree with them. It’s not even that bad things happen there constantly, just that when they do happen I find it highly upsetting.
