➸ Trying to find the right words: can aspies not swim?
It’s true. We sink like rocks because we’re secretly robots disguised as humans.
WTF kind of question is this?
Oh, or wait, might this be related to the recent accidental drownings of autistic children? Because if so, that’s serious shit not to be joked about.
…
And yes that post going around is important.
I’ve almost drowned before and kind of had an instinctive knowledge how bad it was but convinced myself it wasn’t so bad because it wasn’t tv drowning.
It was terrifying. And it happened pretty much the last time I got in semi deep water.
My buoyancy sucks.
And my ability to swim sucks due to neuromuscular crap.
(Whoever said swimming is universally wonderful for all disabled people has never met my muscles.)
Combine all that with waves going over my head, suddenly noticing I’m too weak to surface or signal to anyone, and somehow getting pulled out by a stronger swimmer…
Shudder.
I don’t think even she realized how much trouble I was in. I did, but rapidly convinced myself I wasn’t. Ugh.

Also as for myself, I am okay with water when putting my hand in a stream or having a shower or standing in a shallow bit of the ocean/a lake but I really can’t handle being on a boat.
