Yep thanks to new age crap, there are people who actually believe in something they call the cancer personality.

The worst example I remember was a woman who came to my blog. Cancer ran in her family. She told me that all her relatives died of cancer because of bad personalities and bad attitudes.

She said she was going to be different. She didn’t have the cancer personality, so she was going to live where all her family members had died. It couldn’t possibly be genetics. It couldn’t.

And she chewed me out for standing up for her family members and saying it was terrible to blame them for their own cancer. Told me if I knew them, I’d understand that they died because of their cancer personalities.

It was horrible. I could see that she was trying to give herself hope in a pretty dire situation. But she was doing it by treating her entire family like they deserved to die because their personalities caused their cancer. And there’s no excuse for that.

So I’m always surprised when people say nobody blames people with cancer for being sick. Yes they do. All the time. And it’s terrible.
