➸ VORVAYNE: I guess this is a good example of why I got so mad when I read that comment on the BBC site.
youneedacat:
The one about how disabled people shouldn’t have special words, especially subjective ones not made up by medical professionals, for what happens when we run out of energy. Followed up by how everyone gets really tired sometimes including the commenter.
I am close to dead…
Oh yep been there. Loved the time I couldn’t open my eyes, couldn’t respond to pain, the paramedics assumed I was unconscious and started talking in front of me about whether I’d overdosed on something. Of course nothing was found in my system. This actually angered them. That I dared to be sick and not overdosed. (Turns out it is probably a rare genetic condition, so no wonder the emergency room couldn’t diagnose it in a few hours. My mom has spent a godawful time at the Mayo clinic with similar symptoms FFS.)
Next time they were called to pick me up off the floor, I refused to go to the ER since the doc said I’d just get exposed to germs while already weak. They told me that they would take me if I “refused” to sit up in my wheelchair, then gave me the world’s most detailed mental status exam in an attempt to trip me up. They got very annoyed when by the standards of the exam I was less disoriented than they were.
