I can’t believe people still paint the girl in the video as completely non speaking.

SHE TALKS IN THE VIDEO PEOPLE.

“Mommy why are you crying?”

I once showed that video to a group of researchers and asked them about the abilities of the children. They said they couldn’t speak, couldn’t make eye contact, had no joint attention, etc.

Then I went through the video again pausing every few seconds and everyone was amazed at what they saw. The kids did all of the things they said they couldn’t after the first viewing. All of them.

He’ll at one point the girl was trying hard to make eye contact with her mom and engage with her in other ways and it was the mom who was pulling away and acting like her child didn’t exist.

According to the researchers their first estimate of the kids in the video was because the filmmakers used tricks to pull their attention away from it. Took an autistic person to show them what was really happening.

It makes me so angry.

Both that the video does this and that nobody seems to notice.
