what message does that send? “only light-complected white people get autism”? “we don’t really care about the intersection of race and autism”? “autistic children are only worth keeping around if they look like a rococo painting of a cherub”?

meanwhile autism mysteriously does not confine itself to blonde, blue-eyed white males

I once showed a photo of me and an autistic friend to my dentist. He said “BLACK PEOPLE GET AUTISM?!”

I’m not joking.

Of course of the autistic kids at our school a large proportion were PoC, but that didn’t stop it from surprising everyone.
