Somebody with far more legal knowledge than I should compile a list of what rights you lose once you’ve been committed to a psychiatric facility.

I probably can’t even read that list without being seriously triggered, much less contribute to it, but I want it to exist.

They gave us a little patients rights booklet every time I was committed. Then they violated every right. Someone I know tried to call a patient’s rights advocate. The advocate called the institution and was told “no such patient exists”. End if story. Rights are shit.

  19. mh-things said: The main thing is that you lose the right to refuse treatment and can be held and treated against your will, you SHOULD still have all the other rights any patient has although obviously that doesn’t always happen.
