…Most able bodied adults on food stamps DO have jobs. And one of the mandatory requirements for receiving cash assistance is attending job training. So what even is your point here?

We’ve been in a recession for how long? How many jobs left the economy never to return? The number of people receiving assistances skyrocketed because of unemployment, inflation, and the government finally recognizing that inflation exists and the old standards harmed a huge chunk of the population. People who make minimum wage often don’t make enough to afford rent, food, health care, & transportation so they’re walking to work, not going to the doctor, & still going hungry even with SNAP.

Maaaaybe op doesn’t understand how the real world works.

From people I have met in the area I live in now, I realized after a little while that:
1. this is a very popular opinion
2. Almost every person who posts/says shit like this has NO IDEA WHAT “WELFARE" IS, or the difference between Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, et cet, or that most of those “deadbeats and leeches" they’re talking about are CHILDREN
3. They have no idea what the requirements are for getting any of it, much less that most of the people who receive it HAVE jobs already
4. Most of it’s just barely veiled racism.
I literally had a guy tell me my mother didn’t love me because no mothers on welfare love their children, they just keep having more so they can get more money. His solution to this problem? Every child of every parent on Welfare should be taken away by the state. And what would he DO with these millions of children? Give them to rich people.
I seriously wish I was fucking kidding.
But no, people are actually that fucking evil.
By the way, you know what this guy did for a living? Repairs on low-income housing. That’s how he “knew" that the mothers don’t love their children. Biggest “surprise"? This was, of course, some White dipshit and the housing areas he worked on were majority Black and Latino people living there.

Yep and I know many people who install cable TV who get mad at people on disability just for having cable. When actually the rules for SSI say you can’t save money, you have to spend it. So a lot of us spend it on things like cable, if we have any left over to spend.

I had no idea you couldn’t save your SSI. Wow.

You can’t have over $2000 in money and possessions combined, except some possessions that don’t count. Can’t remember if it’s SSI or Medicaid but either way.
