“Can someone tell me why nurses look at me like I’m an idiot when I tell them that my veins are hard to stick? Like I don’t know anything because I’m the patient! I swear I have to give them a speech about my veins and yet they still don’t care or listen and end up sticking me 5 times when they could have been cautious and tried a liiiiiitle bit harder to find a nice plump vein. I need to learn to draw my own blood and insert my own iv’s.“

Because some nurses and phlebotomists believe that only they, as the professionals, can know anything.
When I used to get near constant blood draws, I’d tell them which veins were best and get yelled at for "limiting their options”.
But a good IV nurse will listen to you. I always inform them which veins are best, which are likely to roll or blow, etc. And by now they listen to me mostly, but I think that’s because I’ve had too many PICC lines installed.
