➸ Trying to find the right words: Okay cool so apparently people thought I was saying not to use the term sociopath
Way to misinterpret my post. Just wow.
So what did you mean?
I meant that we shouldn’t be saying that autistic people can’t be sociopaths and to imply that to be a sociopath is implicitly bad. Given some commentary I’ve reblogged…
Yeah, that thing is why I not only don’t see anything wrong with using the word sociopath to mean lacking a conscience, but don’t see anything wrong with differentiating autism from sociopath. (The fact that there are autistic sociopaths – been stalked by one, know that – doesn’t mean that autism isn’t different from being a sociopath, or that autistic people, in general, have a conscience, and sociopaths, by definition, don’t.)
I know some people use the word differently. I just sort of think…if you apply a word with such a thoroughly unpleasant ethical meaning to yourself, don’t be shocked or offended when people assume you have no sense of right and wrong.
