this awkward life: Spoonie Travel = High Maintenance

thisawkwardlife:

I’m packing for a five-day trip and I’ve realized just how high maintenance I’ve become. Not only do I need to bring the stuff required by spoonies such as all my medications, supplements, and anti-inflammatories, but I’ve also got to pack other things that maintain my current level of “health.“

I eat mostly vegan and gluten free because that’s what makes my body less self-destructive, so this means packing shit like chia and flax seeds, quinoa, rice protein powder, and snacks. Then there’s the stuff required to keep up appearances - skin care and the like to avoid looking gaunt, and clothes sufficient for ALL types of weather since my body can’t regulate its own damn temperature.

I’m almost glad I can’t really travel anymore. Because it used to be bad enough packing. And that was BEFORE I got the feeding tube. (Which in addition to all the other supplies, would mean having to pack a giant bottle of Osmolite per day.) Like I can’t figure out how I’d have room for regular luggage, with all the medical stuff I need.
