I got really confused when thongs turned into flip flops. They used to be thongs in America. Then suddenly whenever I said thongs, everyone started yelling at me. “It’s FLIP FLOPS!!!”

It reminds me of when a childhood teacher got married. If I called her by her previous name she pretended not to hear me. Even though she never told me she got married. She was really rude about it. And then when I said her name in front of other kids, they corrected me with the same tone that people started using about flip flops.

So did American thongs get married and change their name to flip flops at some point?? I have no idea what happened.
