avoid saying, “you’re too young to have ____!“ or “you’re too young to be in pain!!”

cause guess what

we’re young

we’re sick

and we’re in pain

so….

Yeah.

Although even a lot of sick ppl seem to believe this.

“I’m young, I’m not supposed to have worries like this.”

Used to be it was a serious question if anyone would survive childhood. Not long ago. Still is in many countries.

Young people, most young people, are dealing with lots of serious problems from the day they are born. Poverty, family problems, war, famine, colonization, illness, racism.

It’s only the few who imagine youth is a time of innocence and freedom and endless opportunity and health.

And I just can’t get into the idea that there’s this one ideal youth that is tragic to miss out on. Because that’s mostly a myth, for everyone.

And buying into that myth only makes us feel bad because our lives don’t measure up.
