And goodness, being autistic is just the worst thing. Noooooope. given all the shit that’s happened recently? calling autism “the greatest crime ever committed against the American public" is HORRIFYING It really, really is horrible. I hadn’t considered that angle but holy shit, yes. Are people really this stupid?! Can people seriously not work out the fact that a recently discovered condition, the awareness (and acceptance) of which is growing, is going to become more common over time? Can people seriously not understand such a simple concept? It’s as if we all discover a new type of cancer and everyone freaks out and says “this cancer is suddenly everywhere and spreading faster than ever before D: we have to stop this epidemic!!!1" - I mean, this is so simple I’m baffled. Putting the whole “Autism is the worst thing ever ever" aside, people really need to understand this shit. (And people on the AS are supposedly the “mentally challenged" ones…) I don’t think they even care if this stuff is true, as long as they can get some malicious outraged performance art going.But, yeah, I started kindergarten in 1980. Back then only 1/3000 people at most had celiac (it’s about 1% now!!!), and you were lucky if your lactose intolerance got recognized enough to be called a “milk allergy". They sure didn’t know yet that some of us have 90%+ prevalence. My mom and I both suddenly had asthma ca. 1990, though we’d been occasionally passing out while AFAB all along. Most people with (also genetic) type 2 diabetes just died of a heart attack or something before ever getting diagnosed. I could go on, but it’s just too depressing.I am not even going to start in on what criminality lies where. Also the rate of fetal alcohol syndrome had risen in the same way…. BECAUSE THAT’S WHAT THINGS DO ONE THEY’RE DISCOVERED.
