I accidentally got a package of drinks (generic “vitamin water"-type things) from Costco that I didn’t realize were the Zero Calorie version until I’d already gotten them home and opened the package. Usually stuff with sucralose isn’t TOO bad, but this also had that acesulfame potassium stuff.

I’m really glad that I can’t taste the diet coke I use to clean out my feeding tube. I hate artificial sweeteners too.

It’s diet in the hopes that lacking sugar, it will be less sticky and likely to cause the clogs it’s trying to prevent.

Okay…I hate sweet pickles already. But once I sent someone to the store after dill pickles. And she brought home diet sweet pickles….with SPLENDA!

That was one of the foulest things I have ever tasted in my life that called itself food.

And yeah, I don’t think artificial sweeteners are poison, or else I wouldn’t put diet coke in my feeding tube. But I really, really hate them.

And given that I’m fat, staff used to always buy me that stuff against my will. Happens even more to my disabled friend who is about twice my weight. Stuff sometimes feel morally obligated to make us eat what they expect is better for us, even though it’s our fucking money.

Although with me, since I need low fat food for genuine medical reasons, that led even decent people to assume I wanted diet.

(What I hated though was I’d say I didn’t want high fat foods. Because post-cholecystectomy syndrome, not because fat. And someone would actually tell people I didn’t want “fattening" foods. Big difference. And that confused people even more.)
