Our dog just had one of these today. Keep your pets and your ownselves cool folks, this weather is no joke.

Brother #1’s dog, Blackie, was about 14 years old when he died. There was a horrid heat wave.

Blackie (border collie/spaniel cross) was already arthritic and couldn’t navigate the stairs to the basement, and he was way too heavy for us to carry him down. He hung out in the shade and we tried to keep him hydrated, but he couldn’t really drink at all.

That day was horrible, we all did our best to help him and we just couldn’t. One brother sat up with him in the back yard until well past midnight that night.

My dad and brother #3 took Blackie to the vet the next day. The poor dog had heat stroke and wasn’t going to recover. He was euthanized.

Blackie was the best dog ever. We always had at least one dog in the house (often two), and Blackie was friendly with everyone (including visitors). He was such a sweetheart and sure he was old, but I would have expected him to go for another year at least.

So please, people.

Look after your pets and keep them cool.
