Is this an autistic thing or something else?

This is my natural pupil size, at least much of the time. Sometimes they get even bigger. For no reason at all. Always been like this. People first started commenting when I was eleven. When I was thirteen once they went even wider while staring straight into stadium lights during a motor freeze. But that may have been exceptional circumstances, like a seizure or a motor problem. I’m not frozen or seizing right now, nor on any meds that should do it.

I’ve talked to two other autistic people this happens to a lot (surprise, all three of us have been accused of drug abuse without ever doing them, or long before ever doing them, as the case may be). So I wasn’t sure if it’s an autistic thing or just a weird nervous system out muscular issue.

Very possibly. I have a massive collection of autism autonomic papers from my old job, will post link to the relevant study when I get home.

Oh I also probably have autonomic neuropathy. Certainly autonomic dysfunction, long-standing. Inherited through my mom apparently.

And now that I’m home: Larger tonic pupil size in young children with autism spectrum disorder (Anderson & Colombo).
