I have never really sewed anything in my life, but I’m trying to teach myself patchwork. The stitches are easy enough and getting easier. It’s putting everything together that is somewhat challenging. I thought of this because I have a LOT of extra clothing and I wanted to find some way to use it.
This is what I’ve done in the past five hours or so. I am doing it by hand, using the backstitch. My stitches are already becoming neat and even. The main trouble I’m having is figuring out how to join several pieces together at once. I’ve done it perfectly and I’ve done it horribly and I haven’t yet figured out the difference.
(And yes, it’s supposed to be irregular in shape.)
If I’m successful, I have some brown and blue paisley fabric I can use as a backing, and I might do some needlework on parts of the fabric. I’m really enjoying this so far despite the frustration about joining stuff up.
I think the trouble is that my visual processing sucks, and fabric is floppy stuff that changes shape every time you move it. And I’m also not so great at holding multiple ideas in my head at once. So all my strengths are working overtime making up for my weaknesses, and it’s very intellectually challenging.
Also Fey wants to be involved far more than I want her involved.
