I might be wrong

I can’t tell if I’m failing to successfully communicate what I mean, or if I’m just really, really wrong here. I think both are possible.

If I am wrong, I am trying to figure out why so I can be right.

I think there’s a lot of people talking past each other here.

And I also think there’s a thing I can’t even fully name.

Where people are so used to having certain conversations in certain contexts, that when a different context comes along, that says things that sound a lot like things they’ve heard before, the automatic assumption is “this is what I’ve heard before” rather than “this is something different”.

Which everyone does. But it’s turning what could be a constructive conversation about how to handle difficult complicated situations, into an impasse.
