Where does your tongue stay when you’re not speaking? If you’re an English-speaker, it’s behind the top front teeth. If you’re a Russian-speaker, it’s on the bottom of your mouth, lying flat.

Mine is flat.

My palate is low enough that it’s hard to tell which when my mouth is totally closed. (Which it usually isn’t, between allergies and TMJ weirdness.) Otherwise it does go to the bottom.

I’m skeptical about this. In order for my tongue to lie flat in my mouth, I have to consciously force it to stay there. I can’t find a comfortable way that lets it just ‘rest’ there. I’m guessing it has more to do with how a person’s mouth and tongue are shaped than what language they speak.

Yeah. My tongue sometimes rests at the bottom. Other times it seems to go behind my bottom teeth. It’s uncomfortable to rest it on my top teeth.
