I’m disabled and there really are words I can’t stand, but I just don’t get the importance placed on them.

People rarely called me a retard to my face, but they did amongst themselves. Even when they did call me that, though, the fact they treated me like how they thought retards should be…

As long as “eliminating ableist language" is prioritized over challenging ableist ideas, we’re not addressing the root problem so much as obfuscating the issues and enabling non-disabled people to feel self-righteous.
