The Grammar Rules of 3 Commonly Disparaged Dialects

All dialects, from the very fanciest to the ones held in lowest esteem, are rule-governed systems. Here are three examples from three different commonly disparaged dialects that illustrate how dialects have grammar.

I guess I’ve absorbed more southern from my family than I thought. I understand the first two implicitly. And I think the a-prefix thing isn’t just Appalachia? My family’s originally from Oklahoma and Arkansas and I heard that stuff.
Also there are rules for when to drop a g and when not to. It’s not anything simple that I know of but people don’t do it indiscriminately.

Things I hate about communication devices: very hard to do this stuff. I end up sounding totally different.

See? It’s sad how people say “no rules” instead of “different rules,” and they don’t do it just with language.
