Inducing labor may be tied to autism, study says

One of my brothers was induced (another was almost induced). He is not NT, but I don’t believe him to be autistic.

Anyone else want to tackle this one?

This strikes me as a new version of the refrigerator mother thing.

Like along the lines of OMFG these women *don’t even care enough to keep their babies in the womb* and they *probably used medication to avoid hours of excruciating pain in childbirth too*”.

I was induced two weeks early (although it failed and I was then delivered via c-section).  But that was because induction was part of the protocol for pregnant women with type 1 diabetes back in the 80s, not because my mom was too selfish to stay pregnant for another two weeks or whatever the ridiculous stereotype is.  I’m guessing that even today, induced labor usually isn’t a choice at all.

The main thoughts I have on this are pretty much the same as I have on all of the other causation articles: 1) correlation does not equal causation and 2) all of this is a serious waste of resources and is basically the equivalent of searching for needles in haystacks.  Life has “risk” and it’s far past time we got used to it instead of trying to quantify everything and promote fear needlessly.

Unlikely. Autistic children show signs of traits that can only have developed in the wrong during a certain stage of pregnancy. Try again.
