does anyone else…
…find it kind of red-flaggy when people use a lot of unneccsary quote marks?
Like this:
I thought that my son “wanted” to “communicate”.
We just got a “diagnosis” for “practical” reasons.
I don’t really pay it much attention.
I used to know a guy who put quote marks everywhere. I asked him whether they are for emphasis, or to make the word not valid, or something else and JUST FOR ASKING he blew up at me for not accepting his neurodiverse nature.
I couldn’t figure out what he meant by anything so rather than pretend to know, I asked, and apparently that was wrong ?

karalianne said: Those are scare quotes and they indicate sarcasm. Some people use them to emphasize words and they are wrong. It just ends up looking silly.
