I wish I understood this before my stalkers used it as a means of extracting private information from me. They’d deliberately misstate things then I’d correct them and they’d take that information and use it against me further. All the while telling me that refusal to respond or answer their questions was proof of guilt (but so was responding and answering their questions, catch 22). Never ever feel obligated to do that even if it’s seemingly fueled, as it was in my case, by an OCD-related need for accuracy. They will exploit such compulsions to the maximum extent possible. You have no obligation to explain or prove yourself to anyone.
