I hear and read about the severity of autism related issues typically getting better as people grow up. They learn coping skills, good and bad ones, etc.

I’m not.

My issues haven’t gotten better or less impactful on my life. Each year is harder.

I’ve lost skills, or levels of skills that maybe I only have the basics of, now. What little visual-spatial perception I had in high school trying to drive, a decade ago, I don’t have now. Sounds and smells and certain textures were bad and overwhelming growing up, but I’ve largely lost my abilities to cope with them. Doorbells used to be alarming, but not panic attack inducing like now.

You beat me to it. I wrote that because people like us are NOT rare or unusual but nobody talks about us.
