Did my monthly/bimonthly hair combing out today. It’s getting long. And dark. Still varying amounts of wavy or curly in different places.

my partner cannot usually brush her hair unless I help. Tips on keeping it from knotting or hair that would normally be brushed up from coming out in clumps?

I braid it tightly into seven braids. Tie them all back with one big barrette. Put a tight fitting snood over the whole thing. Then put a looser fitting snood over that. And then sometimes a scarf over that. It keeps it from turning into one giant snarl, which can happen in days if left loose. There are still tangles this way, but so so much less. I can’t keep the hair from coming out in clumps, but my hair is so thick that doesn’t affect its appearance much. That’s related to gastroparesis for me. Also I use a very wide toothed wooden comb. That helps too. And to get huge tangles out I pull each strand one at a time. It takes forever but I lose less hair and never have to cut out the tangles. People always, if I leave my hair down long enough for giant mats they say I will need to lop all my hair off. Using my strand by strand technique, I’ve kept all my hair.
