Are there any good autobiographical works on autism out there?

thegreenanole:

There are lots!

I’d start with the Loud Hands: Autistic People, Speaking anthology, maybe.

After that, have you any particular areas of interest?

I like anthologies in general because they show such a wide range of experiences.

Some others:

Sharing Our Wisdom

Autism and the Myth of the Person Alone

Women from Another Planet

Also the anthology “Coming Out Asperger” is not entirely by autistic people, but it mostly is. I think it may be a bit more academic.

But if you read Loud Hands, Sharing Our Wisdom, Autism and the Myth of the Person Alone, and Women from Another Planet, you’ll get a VERY wide cross section of autistic people from those alone.

There are also a LOT of books by individual autistic people. If anyone has any specific queries about those, let me know. I may not be able to help you but I think I have one of the largest collections of books by autistic people out there. So I can give it a shot.
