WHAT IN THE WORLD IS WRONG WITH POLICE OFFICERS?

Need to reblog, because hardly a day goes by that I don’t hear of someone’s dog being shot by cops, and often, the dog is on a leash or in a cage/crate/fence when it’s killed.  Most of these are not “attacks” by the dogs, either, but ordinary, non-threatening behavior or behavior that can be handled without lethal force.  More than one Therapy or Assistance dog has been shot, leaving a veteran without their vital companion.

Yeah, this is a really ugly, growing trend with cops; shooting dogs at the slightest inconvenience or even when there’s none at all.  With SWAT raids I’ve read of a trend of routinely killing all the animals on the premesis, even if they’re on a chain or locked in a cage. And, even if it’s a little ‘yip yip’ dog. WTF?  It’s pure sadism or blood-lust or something, hiding behind the euphemism “it was for officer safety.”

I also follow one blog that keeps track of reported incidents in the US. She hasn’t been posting that series as often lately, but I don’t think I could stand to do it at all.

As pointed out there, half of intentional shootings by police are of dogs. And, yeah, I don’t believe that it’s an honest mistake in reading canine body language, etc., a lot of the time. The worse ones just want to shoot somebody, and know they can almost always get away with killing dogs, without even any disciplinary action.
