gowns:

lower-income people tend to be “hoarders” and richer people are able to do more “minimalist” living spaces. if u don’t have much, you will hold onto any little thing that comes across your way. you got a new tv, but you still keep the old tv because you know things can break. you keep…

Truth.

My mom got into some troublesome food hoarding when we were having some serious money problems—and I still have trouble with not automatically buying way more food than we need or have room to store reasonably, after about a decade of living with a steady middle class household income. Also one factor in my house being such a cluttered wreck: because you might need it later, whatever it is. This stuff can really stick with you.

(Not to mention maybe panicking forever over unexpected expenses and “normal” household repairs. Or hesitating to even buy books, even though you read a lot and can afford them now, because libraries. And so on. Kind of a tangent, but not really.)

Also not getting rid of something because even though you may not want it, it’s so expensive you know you could never replace it without a drastic change in income.
