Yes. I was very much into the Beat writers in high school and women were… not very highly regarded one could say. They were just kind of there it seemed.

It says something to me that as a parlour game William Burroughs shot a glass off water off his wife Joan’s head - or tried to. He actually shot her and she subsequently died.

He did feel terrible about it though and has in fact said he might not have become a writer or such a prolific one if it weren’t for that, which impacted his writing till his death (in 1997).
