felis corvus: So, I've been watching "My Cat From Hell"...

…and, just, WOW, it boggles the actual fuck out of me how many of these people are on there going “My cat is lashing out and attacking me OUT OF NOWHERE!” as they’re doing stuff like:

- Rapidly moving their hands toward the cat’s head

- Picking up the cat *while* the cat is already growling and…

I haven’t watched that, but it does sound…interesting. Some of the dog shows have struck me similarly, with the should-be-obviousness that the humans’ behavior is the main problem there.

I actually love Jackson Galaxy. Cat behavior and body language is really misunderstood even by a lot of cat owners and he really zeros in on those misconceptions and emphasizes that cats don’t just do stuff for no reason or out of spite. Sometimes people have got really active breeds like bengals shut up in tiny apartments with nothing to do and then wonder why they get destructive, other times the owners have absolutely no cat furniture for them to scratch and get mad when they scratch people furniture instead. Also cats are muuuch more trainable than people imagine and he shows some good ways to work with that.

The editing’s a little dramatic, but the advice is right on.

Yeah, I like Jackson Galaxy a lot. He fully admits to being a mistake-making human and is not like one of those people who is all “I have a Special Telepathic Bond with ALL CATS!”
