Somebody needs to learn to actually read and pay attention.

And actually no there isn’t high functioning/low functioning or whatever you want to call it.

There are many, many variations on autism.

That. Is. Not. One. Of. Them.

And paying attention to HF/LF blinds you to the actual similarities and distinctions between autistic people.

Like there’s someone who is nearly identical to me. Like as close to identical as two human beings can possibly get, pretty much. But most people see her as high functioning and me as low functioning and that completely inhibits their ability to see that deep down there’s very little difference between us.

Meanwhile I’ve gotten compared to people I have absolutely nothing in common with just because they consider both of us low functioning.

And THAT is why the distinction isn’t real. Because what you’re actually doing is you’re seeing maybe one, two, or three superficial traits and then making a broad judgement about the rest of the person. Like you see a couple traits and then you generalize those and imagine you’re seeing fifty more traits that aren’t actually there.

And that’s why it’s bad.
